You can ask the seller to drive his car to the service station for diagnostics for example.
But I am afraid that you will have problems with contact to serviceman :)

Might be your friends can help you?
Are they Russian speakers?

сомневаюсь, что ради рекламы сайта, те ребята довольно известные на рынке, они партнеры многих крупных клубов, я их с Туарег клуба помню есчо, а он у меня был в 2009 году))

Actually in their rules and terms of work with coustumer you can find some description about prepayment.

- you have to send the weblink to the prospective car to the following email: [email protected];
- we will check this car and re-call you
- prepayment 100% or you can pay after inspection
- after inspection we wiil send you photoreport where we note and comment all problems and defects with car
- if you need our support in bidding - we can do it for 10% of the transaction (payment)

Anyway the price for the vehicle inspection not so expensive - 3000 rur.
I think that company won't be blacked their reputation, their rating of the 3000 rur.

In SPb I could tell you the telephone number of guys who's work is to check cars for just such people like you.
But the problem is - I'm not sure if they speak english enough to understand you :)
Do you know someone whom you trust and who can talk to those guys for you?

Some time ago I was told it costed 3000 rub. for the full range diagnostics activities.
Geographically they're situated at Nevsky region, not far from "Elizarovskaya" subway station.
